Del Mar is a city located in San Diego County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,389. The San Diego County fair is hosted on the Del Mar Fairgrounds every summer. Del Mar is two square miles of sparkling blue ocean scenery, palm trees, colorful flowers and a charming village filled with winding streets and upscale boutiques, art galleries and fine restaurants. The name Del Mar means "by the sea," and you will marvel at the pristine beaches and glistening water of the Pacific Ocean that makes this town a popular place for visitors. Del Mar is located between San Diego and Oceanside, and is home to the annual San Diego County fair. Attractions: Powerhouse Park, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club which is on the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Torrey Pines State Beach.
Del Mar offers a beautiful, 2.5 miles stretch of Sandy Beach. Excellent conditions for surfing, boogie boarding, swimming and just lounging in the sun. Dog lovers will enjoy bringing their dogs to the beach to run free (limited time of year). Visitor's can enjoy a leisurely picnic at one of the two parks adjacent to the ocean. The Powerhouse Community Center is a wonderful community asset for private and community events.
Known for its world famous race track and thoroughbred club, Del Mar is also a popular seaside escape for many celebrities. But, the main attraction is the beautiful beaches and sunny weather!
